History & Financing

The Snowflake Trust was inaugurated in December 2005 at a meeting in the Seaview Project, St Leonards, with the object of providing shelter and food to local homeless persons during the coldest months of the year.   It was incorporated as a Company registered by Guarantee in 2006 and as a Registered Charity in 2007.   Its initial funds, raised entirely from local donations, were used to run a soup kitchen by hiring premises from the Salvation Army between 2006 and 2011.

The Trust is funded entirely by voluntary donations (see the 'Donate' tab, or send cheques payable to 'The Snowflake Trust' to our registered address of 25 Boscobel Road North, St Leonards on Sea TN38 0NY) and income from grant-making bodies, including the Sussex Community Trust, the Police & Crime Commissioner's Safer in Sussex Community Fund, the Magdalen & Lasher Charitable Trust and the Isabel Blackman Foundation, among others. Supporters should be aware that, whilst not formally necessary for a charity of Snowflake's size, the Trustees have signed up to the new fundraising guidance from the Information Commissioner, and also registered with the Fundraising Regulator.
